2004/2005 Season
Jim O'Brien for new coach, Samuel Dalembert is considered like any other player in the team même with his good past season. The former Celtics coach wanted Mark Blount for starter at the center position but Blount re-singed with Boston. Like Samuel and Marc Jackson were the only centers (with Brian Skinner) in the Sixers roster, and like Samuel did a great season, we could think that he would play a lot of time. But not in O'Brien mind. In fact, in the 18 first games (6 wins, 12 defeats), Samuel played a total of 12 games (because of injures and coach choice), for only 19min per game. But on 10th of December, O'Brien decided to let play Samuel, and Samuel played well, very well. 13pts, 14rbs, 6blks (highlights), and Philadelphia won for the first time since 2 weeks. He could really begin his season.
Samuel started every game, and the Sixers won 3 in a row, seven of ten. With the injuries of Allen Iverson and Samuel, the Sixers struggled in January (7 wins and 9 defeats), Philadelphia needed others players to hope a playoff spot. So, Billy King decided to change Sixers roster. Chris Webber arrived, and Samuel played better. 10.1pts, 8.3rbs et 1.9blk at the end of the season, he was ready to do great things for the Sixers in playoffs. And he did it.
Against Detroit, against Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace and Antonio McDyess, for his first apparence in a playoffs game, Samuel realised a huge performance with 10pts, 18rbs and 3blks. Game 2, he did it, again. 14pts and 11rbs. In fact, in 5 games, Samuel posted 4 double-double and realised a monster serie: 11.6pts (55%), 12.8rbs and 1.4blk. He was the surprise and the MVP (except AI) in the Sixers team.
Even with this elimination against the Pistons, with good seasons from Andre Iguodala, Kyle Korver, Allen Iverson and Samuel Dalermbert, hope was the word at the end of this season.
